Building Motion Monitoring
How Structural Perfomance Data Informs

Presenter
Jamieson Robinson | VP Operations
Excessive motion from winds can affect structural performance and the operation of vertical transport in tall buildings. Learn how staying informed can enable building owners and operators to take timely action when weather events occur.
How Structural Data Informs presents practical monitoring strategies for reliable building, elevator and damper peformance in tall buildings.

Pool Sloshing
in High-Rise Buildings
Many tall building designs around the world have begun moving pools from the bottom floors to the top, providing rooftop amenity spaces with incredible views and a unique experience for residents.
When a tall building interacts with the wind, it will sway back and forth at its own natural frequencies. In cases where the frequencies of the pool and building align, there is a significant probability of large wave responses occurring.
This presentation looks at the risks of sloshing waves occuring in these pools and how they can be mitigated.

Motion Control of Slender Structures
State of the Practice
Flexible structures like tall buildings and long-span bridges can experience excessive motion from wind, earthquakes, or occupant activity.
This presentation explores motion control in civil structures, highlighting practical tools such as wind tunnel testing and numerical simulations.
It will also cover common damping systems like tuned mass dampers and tuned liquid dampers. The goal is to provide an overview of current practices in controlling motion in slender structures, supported by real-world examples from around the globe.

types of occupancies and
spaces.
Controlling the Bounce also explores how human-induced floor vibrations are predicted and how human-induced floor vibrations are mitigated.
